Yerba Mate – Sin Palo

Yerba Mate or maté is a traditional South American caffeine-rich infused herbal drink. This Brazilian mate is sin palo – without stems. The other two main types of mate are sin palo (with stems for a lighter brew) and Chimarrão (a mix of stems and leaf).

The beverage is made by soaking dried shade-grown leaves of the Amazonian rain forest holly tree (Ilex Paraguariensis) in hot water and is traditionally served with a metal straw (bombilla) in a container typically made from a calabash gourd (also called the mate).

The Yerba Mate leaf packs a powerful dose of caffeine, similar to a cup of coffee, yet has the health benefits of true tea and more.

Pronounced “yur-ba mah-tay”.

Naturally caffeinated.

Brew with freshly drawn water just off the boil for 4-6 minutes. Without milk or with as a Mate Latte.
